Discreta y resistente herbácea perenne, de gran valor ornamental por sus varas florales fructificadas. Durante primavera y verano luce sus capítulos con flores violáceas juntamente con otros fructificados de papus de color blanco. Estas flores y pompones blancos iluminan canteros, pastizales, techos verdes y jardines. Desaparece su parte aérea en invierno, volviendo a brotar en primavera. El riego regular extiende su floración.
Siembra superficial, en sustrato húmedo, con exposición a la luz. Las semillas apenas deben ser cubiertas con arena o sustrato liviano. Riego con lluvia fina.
En condiciones controladas, bajo protección, es posible la siembra durante todo el año.
