Herbácea perenne arbustiva que crece tanto en el matorral psamófilo como en las sierras. Brinda numerosas espigas de pequeñas flores color fucsia junto con vistosas sámaras ovaladas que contienen la semilla. Su belleza y alegría se luce desde primavera hasta fines de otoño en jardines costeros, maceteros, rocallas, pastizales y techos verdes. Prefiere lugares soleados y suelos permeables. Tolera la sequía, la lluvia y el viento.
Siembra en sustrato húmedo a 0,5 cm de profundidad. Las semillas deben ser cubiertas con arena o sustrato liviano. Riego regular.
En condiciones controladas, bajo protección, es posible la siembra durante todo el año.
Época de siembra a suelo directo desde otoño hasta fin de primavera.
Trasplante de plantines con 4 o 5 hojas a su lugar definitivo, dejando 40 cm de distancia entre plantas.
